Avril Beukes

Picture
Avril Beukes' career spans decades. She has edited more than 25 feature films.

"Little One", which she edited in 2012, was selected as the South African Foreign Language entry to the 2013 Academy Awards. Other highlights include "Yesterday"  which was nominated for the 2005 Foreign Film Academy Award and "Red Dust" starring Hilary Swank and  Chiwetel Ejiofor (for which she received the inaugural Golden Horn Award for Feature Film Editing in  2006).

Whilst still in her native South Africa, Avril won numerous other  awards for her editing work in feature films and  television. She edited the debut feature films of directors Tom Hooper and  Gavin Hood and works extensively with Darrell James Roodt.

Since relocating to North America, she has edited feature films and feature documentary films, working with directors such as LeVar Burton, Jeff Stephenson, Rockmond Dunbar and Leila Djansi. Djansi's film "Ties That Bind" received nine Ghana Movie Awards  in 2011 including Best Editing and Best Picture.

Avril has worked as a  director, writer and editor. Her narrative directing debut in 1995 was a comedy entitled "Toorgeld"  for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. In 1998, she directed a 13-part documentary series profiling individual members of different units of the South African Police.

Avril has written two series which were broadcast in  South Africa. "Sien Jy Nou!" a 10-part youth drama series and "Viva" a 13-part dramedy series.
